CCBioneers kickoff benefit concert at the Fremont for free cancer screening

What are you doing Thursday night October 23 before the start of the 2014 Central Coast Bioneers Conference?  Well now you have a date! Come raise the roof at the Fremont Theater at our first annual All-Stars Benefit Concert to SLO Down Cancer, a fundraiser for free cancer screening for San Luis Obispo County residents at the Noor Clinic. The concert will feature recent winners of the New Times Music Awards. Performers confirmed to date are Shadowlands and Proxima Parada, and special guest electric violinist Patrick Contreras.

The concert was the brainchild of Ecologistics CEO Stacey Hunt, who became concerned about the issue after reading a report released this year about elevated cancer rates in the County. “We felt we needed to do something to provide a way for uninsured and underinsured people to be tested, as early detection is key.” Hunt, who has lost one friend in SLO County to cancer and has had six other friends and family members in SLO County diagnosed with the disease, contacted Dr. Ahmed Nooristani, founder of the Noor Clinic, a free medical clinic in SLO, who agreed to collaborate and perform the testing. The Noor Clinic will provide screening for three of the four cancers which have seen the largest increase: thyroid cancer, breast cancer and melanoma.

Tickets will go on sale soon on our website. Watch for an announcement and come out and support this effort. Resilient communities take care of each other so come on out and support this event. 100% of proceeds will go to the Noor Clinic for this testing. Let’s SLO Down Cancer.
