Face Masks for SLO County new sponsored group
The Ecologistics board accepted a new organization for sponsorship, headed up by Gail Gresham, called Face Masks for SLO County. Gail, an amazing organizer, is leading the charge to consolidate face mask-making efforts in San Luis Obispo County, and provide free face mask distribution.
The group has created a web site to connect sewists and people with materials to donate with individuals and groups requesting a free mask, as well as donors. Although not medical grade, the face masks will add some protection, as well as self-awareness about not touching faces. “We are targeting higher-risk recipient groups, such as homeless shelters, day care centers, senior residential facilities, food service workers, and other essential employees still serving the public,” said Gail.
The group has already been featured on the Dave Congalton Show and had press coverage in the Atascadero News, who featured a story about their donation of masks to El Camino Homeless Organization, who will take masks to homeless people in North County.
“We desperately need more volunteers to sew these masks so we can keep up with the requests, “Gail said. The pattern is easy and it’s a great project for students sheltering at home. It’s also an opportunity for students looking for community service projects for school, youth groups, and adult local service organizations and clubs.” Gail added “We are very thankful that Ecologistics stepped up to help us.”
