Global Poets for Justice founder Drew Dellinger to give keynote address at CCBioneers Conference
Central Coast Bioneers is very lucky to have attracted internationally known speaker, poet, writer and teacher Drew Dellinger for this year’s keynote lecture on Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Monday Club.
Many of you may have seen Drew on the National Bioneers main stage reading from his book of poems Love Letter to the Milky Way, where he read these haunting words:
“It’s 3:23 in the morning
and I’m awake
because my great great grandchildren
won’t let me sleep
my great great grandchildren
ask me in dreams
what did you do while the planet was plundered?
What did you do when the earth was unraveling?”
This same passage was read by Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin to former Vice President Al Gore during Gore’s testimony at Congressional climate change hearings on April 24, 2009.
Drew’s latest project has been an in-depth study of Dr. Martin Luther King’s view of the cosmos and the ecological dimensions of his teachings that have been largely overlooked. King’s vision connected racism with war and poverty, stressed the unity of people and movements around the planet and recognized the interwoven nature of the universe. This holistic view of the cosmos and society is the basis of Drew’s lecture The Mountaintop Vision: Martin Luther King’s Cosmology of Connection. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Afterward Drew will be signing copies of Love Letter to the Milky Way. I treasure my autographed copy and I know you will, too. (And we may talk Drew into a poetry reading Friday morning at the conference before his keynote that night, so stay tuned!)
