Morning Asanas

Cheryl McCollum will teach a Sunday morning yoga class at this year’s CCB conference. This very gentle yoga class will feature asanas (the Sanskrit term for yoga poses), pranayama (breath control), and end with a guided meditation. The class will seamlessly intertwine movement and stillness.

“The class will be slow, and we will move as if we had just woken up and were still lying in our beds. The class will be accessible to anyone,” McCollum explained.

Receiving her 200-hour yoga training in Maui with Ted Surmon, McCollum studied the lineage of Krishnamacharya and his son T.K.V. Desikachar. Over the years McCollum has taught in many studios in San Luis Obispo, but has settled at the YMCA on Southwood Drive. Describing it as her home, she is grateful to be able to teach people who might not have tried yoga but find the YMCA an inexpensive and safe place to explore this ancient practice.
