Two films of interest coming to SLO

HopeDance FiLMs is screening “Crazywise” at 7:00 pm June 9 at the San Luis Obispo County Public Library meeting room at Palm and Osos.  This documentary looks at how traditional wisdom of indigenous people often contradicts Western views about a mental health crisis and explores what we can learn from people who have turned their psychological crisis into a positive transformational experience.  Suggested donation $10-$15 but no one will be refused admission for lack of funds.  More information and a trailer here.

Biodiversity First! is bringing a National Geographic documentary to the Palm Theatre, 817 Palm Street, SLO 7:00 pm Wednesday, June 21 entitled “Water & Power: A California Heist.”  The film tells the story of how a handful of water barons gained control of the state’s most precious resource, while drought left local homeowners with dry wells.  A Q&A with Adam Keats, attorney with the Center for Food Safety, will be held following the film.  The film is directed by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney and Emmy Award winner Marina Zenovich.   This is a free event sponsored by Biodiversity First!, SLO’s newest activist environmental nonprofit organization, who speaks for those with no voice.   Watch the trailer here.
