CCBioneers kicks off conference with a series on rivers
First up on Friday morning, October 4th at Central Coast Bioneers is National Bioneers speaker Erica Gies on the Slow Water Movement. Increasingly frequent floods and droughts amplified by climate change inevitably spur calls for higher levees, bigger drains, and longer aqueducts. But now, practitioners of the Slow Water movement like Erica Gies—inspired by geology, microbes, beavers, older cultures, and cutting-edge science—are showing us that we can make space for water within our human habitats and collaborate with natural systems to forge a more resilient future. Erica’s recorded talk from the Bioneers conference will be followed by a screening of the Patagonia short film “Undammed: Amy Bowers Cordalis and the fight to free the Klamath. After the screening, Audrey Taub of the SLO Beaver Brigade will talk about the Drinkable Rivers movement and Don Chartrand of CreekLands Conservation will give us the great news of the pending removal of a dam on Arroyo Grande Creek.
The rest of the day will feature speakers and workshops on environmental and climate issues. On Saturday October 5th the topics will turn to social and environmental justice. Tickets on sale now at https://ecologistics.org/ccb-conference-2024/
