The future of night

On Saturday evening, October 12, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Beautify Cambria Association will present The Future of the Night at the Santa Rosa Church at 1174 Main Street.  Beautify Cambria is a non-profit dedicated to preserving and enhancing Cambria’s unique beauty, including the night sky from light pollution.  Its Dark Skies Initiative committee has produced educational events for nine years to educate and promote dark skies.

This year brings speakers from Cambria and Santa Barbara County who will enlighten, shock, and dazzle as they share the latest in space exploration and the human effects of the loss of night with photos on DSI’s 135” movie screen.   In addition, amateur astronomers will share their high-powered telescopes to observe Venus, Saturn, a waxing gibbous moon and other celestial objects.

A $15 donation is appreciated to cover the costs of hosting the event and help finance international dark sky certification.  Children 12 and under are free.  Sweet treats and refreshments are included.  Fog does not cancel the event.  For more information about the speakers and the event visit: beautifycambria.org.
