Ian Schiffer is a kuuy/ger (meaning guest in Tongva and Hebrew) activist, ritualist, and resource mobilizer of Ashkenazi descent born and raised in Tovaangar/LA. He is a legal apprentice with Land Clinic, and through collaboration, supports release of resources and return of/to land. He worked with a Tongva Conservancy supporting the return of land (called Huhuunga) where, because of the removal of eucalyptus trees and colonial junk, the Eaton Fires had a (fire as) relative impact on the land. Ian is part of shomeret shalom (tenders of peace) teshuvah/repair pilgrimage cohort and is learning to practice radical hospitality while hospicing real estate. He prays for a liberatory remembrance that doesn’t leave the land, water, or any beings behind and dreams of circling the oak tree he grew up with others breathing in decommodified embodied sanctuary.
