On Sunday, April 6, from 11:00 – 2:00 City Farm’s San Luis Obispo will hold its official ground breaking event-URBAN FARM FUN-RAISER at 1221 Calle Joaquin in San Luis Obispo. The Mayor of SLO and Executive Director of Central Coast Grown (CCG) will be kicking the event off with a groundbreaking ceremony. CCG invites the community to join us on the first day City Farm is open to the public by planting veggies, constructing eco pots, and capturing fun photos at a photo booth. The community will even play a hand in naming Nico Farm’s tractor. CCG reminds people to bring their favorite picnic food to enjoy at the event while also trying some locally supplied snacks. Music entertainment from the local group Off the Griddle will fill the air. Kids can look forward to the puppet show and puppet-making station. And if you have a bike, join CCG on a guided ride to the event from the Madonna Mountain trailhead at 10:00AM. Even if you can’t make the bike ride, CCG encourages all bike riders to come; CCG has got bike valet covered.

Central Coast Grown is a 501(c)3 non-profit based in San Luis Obispo, CA. The nonprofit strives to bridge the gap between what people eat and where it comes from and in doing so, strengthens the food culture and relationships people have with their food. A major part of CCG’s effort is City Farm’s San Luis Obispo. The San Luis Obispo-based urban farm sits on 20 acres in the heart of the city’s Calle Joaquin Ag Reserve. After partnering with their first City Farm tenant in the summer of 2013, Nicola Allegretta of Mama’s Meatballs, CCG is further increasing activity on the remaining adjacent land cultivating new farmers, experimental agriculture, and educational opportunities.
