Carrizo Commons Conservation Website
Central Coast Bioneers monitors many websites to find cutting edge issues and presenters for workshops and conference programming. We’ve recently learned of carrizocommons.org, a website dedicated to the Carrizo Plain in eastern SLO county and the issues surrounding this precious land.
The Carrizo, a small part of which is a national monument, attracts statewide and national attention for being California’s “Serengeti.” A vast inland grass plain, it is marked by rich biodiversity (including 34 endangered or threatened species), magnificent vistas, wildflowers, indigenous rock art, geology, and connectivity with the adjacent Los Padres National Forest.
The website displays striking photographs and a wealth of information on the Plain. A favorite feature is the endangered species box on the splash page; by selecting a species you get a full-page description and photograph. Praise to the website authors and designer!
