A Citizen’s Guide to Voting

Local citizen David Brehe has written a wonderful short guide on how to vote, partly to address AB773, a voter education bill for high school students that was passed by the California State Legislator last fall.   The Guide was reviewed by County Clerk Tommy Gong, the Cal Poly Political Science Department, the Legislative Analyst for AB773 and the League of Women Voters and has been made available to the SLO County school system, Cuesta College, Cal Poly and schools in other jurisdictions. The purpose of the guide is to provide knowledge, methods and tools to enable citizens to become better voters.  It contains information on how to register, how to gather information about the candidates and initiatives and evaluate it, how to discuss the issues with others and how to examine your assumptions, biases and emotions.  The Guide also lists important deadlines for the upcoming election and how to make sure your vote was counted.  A link to the Guide is here.  Thank you, David, for your hard work in putting this information together and getting it properly vetted.
