Anastasia Maier is the Director of Land Clinic, a loving invitation for the legal system to move from rupture to repair by utilizing tools, processes, and systems that may help connect individuals to the histories and ecologies of a place. She incorporates legal design, dance and somatics, mothering young children as well as an ancestrally-informed root into her work. Examples of this work are estate planning for land-based legacies, negotiating with the US Forest Service and National Park Service for rematriation efforts, relationship memorialization through contract, mapping ancestral homelands and building accessible legal land tools.
Prior to stepping into her role at Land Clinic, some of Anastasia’s relevant experience includes acting as general counsel at the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator, adjunct professor at University of Southern California (USC) Masters of Law Program (LLM), managing partner at Sustainable Law Group (now Ojai Law Corporation), board member of LA Compost, artistic mentee of Creature Conserve’s art-science mentorship program and social enterprise/nonprofit advisor for the county of Los Angeles. She lives in the forested foothills of the Western Washington Cascades where she shares a home with her husband and two daughters.
