Ecologistics Board Members Take Part in Break Free LA March
On May 7, Ecologistics Board members Tori Poppenheimer and Ted Hamilton joined thousands of other activists marching through downtown Los Angeles as part of a global Break Free from Fossil Fuels action spearheaded by 350.org.
People gathered in Los Angeles from all over California to demand real climate leadership from Los Angles Mayor Eric Garcetti and California Governor Jerry Brown.
Bill McKibben, a founder of 350.org, and Tom Steyer of NextGen Climate were among a host of speakers from regional environmental groups participating at the Los Angeles rally and march. The organizers of Break Free put it best,
“There has never been a better time than now to break free from fossil fuels. Coal, oil and gas companies are in a financial crisis, the planet is overheating, and — thanks to you, a global resistance is growing to confront the industry wherever they turn.”
During May 3-15, 2016, 30,000 activists took part in 20 separate actions on 6 continents.
Ted and Tori kept their travel carbon footprint low by taking the Amtrak Surfliner train from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles and using public transportation to get around the city.
