It’s Film Festival time!
The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival runs from April 26 through May 1 this year. The event will be in person, but ticket holders have the option of watching virtual screenings from May 1 through May 8.
As usual there will be some films with an environmental and social justice focus. Please get these on your calendar:
A Crack in the Mountain – environmental activists attempt to save the ecosystem of the largest cave in the world, Vietnam’s Hang Son Doong, from development and tourism promotion. Screens April 28 at 10:15 am at Downtown Cinemas, April 29 at 11:00 am at Cuesta Performing Arts Center, April 30 at 10:30 am Palm Theater.
Daughter of a Lost Bird – follows a Native American child who was adopted into a white family and raised with no knowledge of her Native parentage, in her attempts to locate her birth mother. Screens April 27 at 6:45 pm Downtown Cinemas, April 29 at 4:00 pm at Palm Theater, May 1 at 11:00 am Palm Theater.
The Seeds of Vandana Shiva – this film tells the remarkable life story of Gandhian eco-activist Dr. Vandana Shiva, how she stood up to Monsanto, and rose to prominence in the ecological food movement. Screens April 27 at 6:15 pm Downtown Cinemas, April 28 at 1:30 pm Downtown Cinemas, April 29 at 10:00 am Downtown Cinemas.
The Accessible Outdoors – investigating the lack of access to nature for people with disabilities, activist Judy Heumann, award-winning author Richard Louv, and everyday wheelchair users and outdoor access activists discuss how to make nature accessible to everyone. Screens April 27 at 12:00 pm at Downtown Cinemas (short film, shown with other films)
Make Your Move – R.A.C.E. Matters, in collaboration with the festival, presents Make Your Move, a free program of five short films featuring stories about movement and movements — moving through life and moving us forward. The event includes a filmmaker Q&A. Screens April 30 at 12:30 pm Fremont Theater.
