Learn a new approach to dying at SLO Film Festival screening of “Griefwalker”

On Sunday, March 15th from 4:00pm to 6:30 pm at the Downtown Cinemas, the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival will screen the “Griefwalker,” a documentary about Stephen Jenkinson’s approach to dying in North America and what it asks of us, a stirring meditation on what it takes for us to fall in love with our lives. Stephen is redefining what it means to live, and die well. A trailer of the film can be seen here. 

Stephen Jenkinson, MTS, MSW is a spiritual activist, author, ceremonialist and farmer. Stephen teaches internationally and is the creator and principal instructor of the Orphan Wisdom School, founded in 2010. With Master’s degrees from Harvard University (Theology) and the University of Toronto (Social Work), he is revolutionizing  grief and dying in North America.  Apprenticed to a master storyteller, he has worked extensively with dying people and their families, is former program director in a major Canadian hospital, former assistant professor in a prominent Canadian medical school, consultant to palliative care and hospice organizations and educator and advocate in the helping professions. He is also a sculptor, traditional canoe builder whose house won a Governor General’s Award for architecture.

All tickets for regular screenings will be sold at the venue on a first-come, first serve availability basis $12 General, $10 Students and SLOIFF Film Society. If you have not bought a film pass, arrive at least 30 minutes early. Passes allow priority admission for up to 15 minutes before screening/event time. A variety of passes are available. On Friday, March 20th, Stephen Jenkinson will be at Hospice SLO’s Dorothy Rupe Center for a book reading and signing of his latest work, Die Wise: A Manifesto for Sanity and Soul. On Saturday, March 21st, Stephen will present a teaching of Die Wise. “It’s a teaching for everyone who, hell or high water, is not going to pull off eternity, after all.” This event will be held at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa at 751 Palm St. in SLO.
