Peace Academy offers new class starting October 1

The Peace Academy of the Sciences and Arts had an amazing and very successful 4-week Summer Enrichment program for children ages 6-9, serving 45 families in SLO.  This dynamic and vibrant program is expanding and the Peace Academy team is excited to announce a Fall Enrichment course titled “Human Rights Applications in Global Diplomacy” for ages 14-18 scheduled to begin October 1st. This is a 12-session enrichment program during which students will connect with the UN office in Washington D.C., discuss the UN’s Declaration of Human Rights, evaluate the necessity of an educated global population who can pursue these rights for themselves and others, and confront ways in which countries violate these Human Rights. Students will create an action plan, track their progress, and present their findings at Bliss Cafe, downtown SLO.  If you’re looking for an amazing opportunity for your teen’s college application and also want to build their sense of compassion and global citizenship, this is it!!

The class will take place from 5:30 – 8:30 pm on Mondays at the McDaniel Reporting Building – 1302 Osos Street in SLO – and has been developed after much demand from SLO’s larger community for the Peace Academy to offer teen programs throughout the course of the academic year.  We have 20 spots available. The deadline to register is September 20th.  Please visit the Peace Academy’s Fall Enrichment web site to find more information and register.
