Volunteers needed for tree planting project

Greening Los Osos received a CA ReLeaf Grant to plant trees in our community and we are looking for volunteers to help with the project. Now is your opportunity to plant. We will be planting 16 – 15 gal native trees in two separate locations on LOCSD properties in Los Osos on Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 between the hours of 9:00 am – 4:00 pm both days. The work will involve digging holes, planting and staking the trees. We estimate we will need about 10 volunteers each day. We understand it is the holiday season but what better way to celebrate. We need to complete the project before the end of the year. This is a great community project and hope that you will join us in giving back to our community. Come for the day or just a few hours.

Please email info4greeninglososos@gmail.com and let us know if you would like to help and which days so we can plan accordingly. Further details will then be provided.  We will be following all CDC guidelines to protect the health and safety of everyone involved. Masks will be required for all volunteers.

We will also be looking for a few people to volunteer to water the trees weekly throughout the first two years. This is very important. I am very happy to report that we will be repurposing flushed water from the LOCSD which would otherwise be wasted. The water will be stored in water tanks at each site for our use. We are also working toward gaining access to reclaimed water in the near future for these and other community trees.

Funding for this California Climate Investments grant project has been provided through California ReLeaf and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Urban and Community Forestry Program. Additional funding provided by Greening Los Osos with support from the Los Osos Community Service District, Sage Landscape, Loomis and Miner’s Ace Hardware. Special thanks to Ron Munds and the LOCSD.

If you would like to help but aren’t able to volunteer, please consider a tax deductible donation to Greening Los Osos to support our ongoing efforts in the community.
