Welcome: The Coastal Awakening

Ecologistics has added another fine organization to our umbrella of fiscally sponsored nonprofits, The Coastal Awakening.  The Coastal Awakening is a nonprofit group devoted to the discovery, curation and promotion of the cultural identity of the Central Coast including such values as sense of place, liberation, diversity, universalism, personal growth and human potential.  TCA works in partnership with the Shanbrom Family Foundation and other 501(c)(3) organizations to award individual and group micro-grants to Central Coast writers, artists, musicians and creatives of varied disciplines who embody and demonstrate an awakened way of being in the world that honors the land and self-liberation through their arts and avocations. The group intends to conserve the spirit of creative experimentation that manifests in the diverse vision of Central Coast inhabitants.

In 2018, the Coastal Awakening sponsored a month-long display of the legendary Jack Kerouac Scroll of On The Road in conjunction with the SLO City/County Library, talks by Jami Cassidy-daughter of Kerouac best friend Neal Cassady, and a Beat film series at the 2018 San Luis Obispo International Film Festival.  TCA also sponsored The Art of Esalen exhibition at the SLOMA, Going Against the Grain: Extraordinary Individuals of the Coast Awakening, Lou Harrison music with the SLO Master Chorale, and Big Sur Impressions by the SLO Symphony.

For 2019 TCA has commissioned original art work by Mark Bryan and provided funds for Canzona Women’s Ensemble to commission an original music composition by Craig Russell based on works by eco-poet Robinson Jeffers.  The SLO International Film Festival presented a Facing Fascism film series during its March festival.  The films, curated by TCA, were intended to help viewers uncover the psychology that has continually driven humans toward fascism and understand the human needs that fascism servers so that viable alternatives might be discovered. The film series will be shown again in the fall, so stay tuned.  Approximately 10 other projects are in development by TCA for 2019 and 2020.

The Coastal Awakening works in partnership with the Shanbrom Family Foundation and other 501(c)(3) organizations to award individual and group micro-grants to Central Coast writers, artists, musicians and creatives of varied disciplines who embody and demonstrate an awakened way of being in the world that honors the land and self-liberation through their arts and avocations. 1. Dear Coastal awakening. . My name is Ted Emrick and I’m an artist here on the Central Coast since 1987. I’ve been creating works here in Los Osos in Cayucos. that are about the environment, the resonance of the area, the color, action and thought. My works can be seen at the Museum of art in San Luis Obispo as well as hotels and collections throughout the area .I have hosted a climate festival here in Baywood during the Paris climate summit. and in the years after the festival I have Co hosted a lighted boat parade and art show. This year I plan something new with the art show having a more environmental and vibration minded theme. I hope you have a chance to look in on the things we’ve been doing here in Baywood Park I believe we are making a difference.
